Well known art collectors in Miami
Some of the more well-to-do in the Miami area understand that investing in art can be a lucrative venture especially since classification as a dealer, investor or collector can often bring favorable tax treatment when it comes time to sell a piece of art. For that reason, there is a host of rich Republican art collectors who call Miami home and house their expensive pieces in the district.
Norman Braman tops the list as a local billionaire and one of Miami’s most well-renowned art investor. He may have brought himself quite a bit of notoriety as one of the owners of the Philadelphia Eagles, but he is now making a name in Miami art where he is the main benefactor of the Institute for Contemporary Art in the Design District. He has acquired almost a billion dollars’ worth of art (~$900 million) with works by Warhol, Picasso and others in his personal collection.
Jorge Perez is a condo dealer who has almost made a name for himself in the Miami art game. Tourists may have a better idea of him as the namesake for the PAMM (Perez Art Museum Miam), however, he also boasts of a sizable personal collection that keeps a nice size of his worth tied of in the valuables. His Miami home is a constantly rotating living exhibit where his collection is displayed rather than stored in obscurity. Some of his favorite pieces include sculptures by Pablo Atchugarry, pieces by Torres LLorca, and Michael Loew displays to name but a few.
Rosa and Carlos de La Cruz round out the top 3 Miami locals with deep Republican and art collecting ties. They have a private museum called the De La Cruz Collection which is a free exhibit where they house their own art collection for the public to admire. The couple has made the list as one of the top 200 collectors in the game and as with most others they do not wish for the collection to remain latent and not bring the enjoyment that the pieces can to those tourists who stop by to admire them.
Miami also has a great many other art collectors whose taste varies as much as the sea of people that makes up the area. So many celebrities call Miami home and keep their art collections there as well. Pharrell Williams is one rapper who is a huge fan of contemporary sculptors and painters whose art is displayed throughout his residence. Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted at many of the art gatherings where he occasionally acquires pieces from the likes of Salvador Dali, Takashi Murakami, and other big names. Also, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have been known to frequent Art Basil in Miami to add to their collection which includes Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso and others. There is definitely much to do for the art enthusiast or collector in Miami and it should be one of the must-visit spots on any list.
