Myself and my husband and our three small kids visited the Elm Tree on a busy Saturday night a few weeks ago and I must say I was more than impressed with the restaurant, food and service. We arrived at about half 6 which of course is peak dinner time and we had braced ourselves for a bit of wait. However when we arrived we were told it would only be 5 or 10 minutes and true to the managers word we were seated within 10 minutes which was great! The bar area is lovely- really comfortable seats and the bar staff are attentive and friendly and we were able to order drinks straight away. We were given a lovely table in the front section of the bar and the waitress was straight over to us as soon as we sat down to make sure we were ok for everything and to give the kids colours and paper. We had the platter to share for our starter which was a nice selection but everyhting was pretty much deep fried and a bit greasy but otherwise tasty. I had the duck for my main course which was absolutely delicious and my husband had an absolutely perfectly cooked sirloin steak. Another nice touch was that the kids food came out as soon as it was ready which meant no hungry kids and we could enjoy our meal, and the complimentary kids play area was brilliant! The staff were excellent- everything ran really smoothly and the waitress came over at least twice to make sure everything was ok. I didnt catch her name but I really must say she was lovely nothing was too much trouble for her and she always had a friendly smile on her face. Dessert was gorgeous too but absolutely HUGE we got one banoffi pie between the two of us and we still couldnt finish it! Maybe a cheaper price and smaller portions would be a better idea? One thing I didnt like was the price of drinks- pints of heineken were 4.50 each and cokes were 2.65 which is just extortionate compared to other resaurants. Overall we thought the elm tree was an excellent family reataurant with top quality food and service! We loved the food but I think it was the superb staff who really made our evening and we will definitely be paying a return visit! - SmileyFace, Ireland - Aug 27, 20114525

I've heard loads about the new look Elm Tree and went there on Saturday night. Great spot! The food was great and the staff very attentive. There was live music at 10pm and we stayed the night. What a gem in East Cork! Will come back again and again! - Marian, Cork - May 18, 20095555

My friends have told me about the Elm and after being there tonight I loved it. I had goats cheese starter with a mango chutney which was scrumptious! I followed this with the duck with an apricot and chesnut stuffing. My only let down was I would have loved cheese board to accompany our Punto Nino Merlot but other than that great food, great servce and wonderful interior! Will be going back again. - Sinead, Mdleton - May 14, 20095555

Was there recently and went back again tonight! Thursday night and they were busy! They had a private function for 50 and the main restaurant was full when we arrived but we were shown to a table straight away and I loved it! Keep it up! - Michelle, Cloyne - May 7, 20095544

Reading the two revies (latest updates) i felt i had to write to say those people prob not know good quality if it hit them in the face. The staff are extremley friendly and the food is fantastic .My favourite place ever for sunday lunch. I am so looking forward to seeing the NEW EXTENTION of the place. I would totally totally disagree with the reviews dated 18 mar and 14th may 08.Of course you are entittled to your opinion but to slate a place to that extent is ridicilous. Def worth dropping in to see for your self... - Karen, Midleton - Dec 5, 20085555

What a dump - You get a dirty look when you go in the bar and this is fromthe staff like. contempt when a request to see a menu is made. I mean what a shitheap. I live quite close and have given the joint a chance but fuck that for shit foor and an attitude to the customer. - Micko, Cork - May 14, 20081121

Nice bar, nice staff, the food is always good but I've stopped going there because of the price. A tenner for lunch from a carvery is too expensive. - Aug 25, 20054444

I was in Midleton for a few days for a wedding last week and, having seen the Elm Tree here, decided to call in for a change of scenery. It's a good pub. We called in on the way back from Cork for a drink and a meal and it was worth the detour. There's a nice feeling to the place. Very relaxed and easy-going. But it was really the menu that attracted us to stop in the first place and this was excellent. They have a really varied menu and it's very reasonable. The pub itself is a bit out of the way (and I'm not sure anyone but locals would find it...we definitely wouldn't have!) but if you're around East Cork it's worth calling in here. - Ryan, England - Oct 7, 20044435
