Palestine refugee families will enjoy a nice meal during the holy month of Ramadan due to the generous donation of IRUSA

Palestine refugee families can enjoy the first holy days of Ramadan with a full meal, something that daily is unfortunately quite rare due to the overwhelming inaccessibility to safe food and water, a basic humanly right that is unattainable by most. The Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) is one of the partners of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). IRUSA was able to generously contribute meals worth $300,000 to Gaza-based Palestinian refugees providing them with food parcels ranging from halva, jam, canned beans, dates, cheeses and tea. These people are often faced with repeated cycles of restricted mobility, violence, frequent power outages, and unreliable access to safe food and drinking water.

The director of UNRWA from the Strategic Partnerships Division Mr. Abdi Aynte expressed the importance of this support highlighting the international bonds of solidarity in times of great instability. He also gave his warm thanks to IRUSA for its continuous support of Palestine refugees. Many Palestine refugees depend on this support and food assistance where many are not being able to buy their basic needs for Suhoor, (a meal early in the morning prior to fasting), and Iftar (the breaking of the fast) for Ramadan. Ramadan is a holy month to Muslims where they fast for a month from sunrise to sunset not being able to eat or drink anything. This month is an intense spiritual rejuvenation where Muslims spend extra time being the best Muslim that they can be, praying more, reading the Quran, learning patience, being as generous as possible, and practicing the religion.

IRUSA has programs aimed at reducing world poverty aiming to help children, orphans, women’s initiatives, food aid, livelihood, education and health. For 70 years UNRWA has delivered effective and reliable humanitarian support to Palestinian refugees including free healthcare, education, cash assistance, food, and microcredit loans to over 5 million Palestine refugees that are facing extreme hardships in Jordan, Syria, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and the West Bank. Their mission is to help these refugees achieve their full human development potential and creating a lasting solution to their difficulty.
